Gentlemen

The golf continues despite the seasonal change of the weather. The shorts will soon be replaced by long trousers and the windproof jacket will be donned. Ladies v Men at the weekend was a lot of fun despite our loss!

MEN’S Competition Tuesday November 12th

With the changeable and unpredictable weather forecasts firmly in place we still managed 26 players to take part in the Men’s competition. Scoring for 25 of the 26 who played seemed rather difficult. The Tuesday spoils were actually a hat- trick for Scott Martin, a relatively new playing member, who managed to pick up nearest the pin, a two in the 2’s club and winner overall on the day with 41 points. Well played Scott. The only good news I can offer his fellow competitors is that the Federation kindly cut his handicap by 1.2. The rest of the field, 6 points adrift, were tightly bunched with 4 players on 33 points with Stuart Burrell 4th on handicap.

Results

1 st – Scott Martin – 41 pts
2 nd – James Jenet – 35 pts
3 rd – Chris Hutchin – 34 pts
4 th – Stuart Burrell – 33 pts on Hcp
Nearest the Pin – Scott Martin
2’s – Scott Martin , David Steele & David Macgregor
Tissue – Mark Squire

MEN’S Competition Thursday November 14th

The threat of rain saw many members not playing. However, a hastily revised start sheet with those that turned up was put together by David MacGregor. Many thanks to David. There was a small break in play whilst a sharp shower and a few lightning flashes passed by but other than that minor inconvenience nine players managed to complete their round. Two’s were hard to come by and only one was recorded but had not entered the 2’s club!!

Results

1 st – Hugh Richards – 38 pts
2 nd – Paul Ingebrigtsen – 36 pts
3 rd – David Macgregor – 35 pts on Hcp
Nearest the Pin – Stuart Burrell
2’s – None
Tissue – Jeremy Sibbons

MEN’S HOME ACL Match v El Paraiso Friday November 15th

Needing an exceptional win to give us any chance of winning the ACL for this year perhaps did not go as well as expected. Some very close matches decided by a result of 1 up fell the wrong way. The overall result was a win for San Roque 91⁄2 – 8 1⁄2. With three matches left to play and a possible 54 points available, 33 points for SR could put us in third place behind this year’s winners Los Naranjos. Second place in the league is probably Las Brisas but 3 rd, 4th and 5th are very close. Golf has a habit of turning up surprises – let’s hope!

Annual Trophy Match – LADIES v MEN

This year’s Ladies v Men was a hotly contested match with 44 players making up 22 teams. The format was Match Play with one point for each nine and one for overall in each game. The Men took the lead in the early games and the Ladies fought back and with four matches to go the scores were all square. As we all know golf is a funny old game and the tide seemed to turn in favour of the Ladies. The Ladies won two of the last four matches 3-0 and suddenly the best the Men could do was a half by winning the last two games by the same score. Unfortunately, the Men could only manage 4 points and so victory went to the Ladies 181⁄2 – 141⁄2.

It seems that the Men will have to wait until next year to see whether we can win the Trophy back. Thank you to all the Men that played and congratulations to all the Ladies. As Arnie (not the golfer) would say – We’ll be back!!
