Gentlemen

What an emotional week with Ramon leaving. We wish him all the success for the future in taking on his role in the Air Charter business. More about the golf day later in the newsletter. Thanks to Michael Keane for being Master of Ceremonies for the Medal on Sunday.

Men’s Competition Tuesday September 17th

A large field of 45 players started the day but only 43 managed to finish. As usual with more than 40 players the field was split into two categories by handicap. A very competitive day on the course where 37 points would only get you 10th place. In division one, a great round by one of our Juniors, Eduardo Ybarra Gallagher scoring an excellent 42 points but unfortunately not able to pick up the prize. This was the same for a guest, not a Junior I hasten to add, with a very familiar surname that often features in the winner’s enclosure. An equally good score of 40 points by Donald MacGregor only gets a mention in dispatches. In Division two the first three place were decided on handicap each scoring 39 points with Simon Sutcliffe being victorious.

MIXED Competition & Ramon’s Leaving Day Thursday September 19th

Logistically not the easiest competition to organise. What was originally envisaged as a small celebration turned out to be a competition with 84 players and not enough tee times. We endeavoured to include all the Members that wanted to play and had to squeeze everybody into 21 tee times at 8-minute intervals. It was always going to be slow, but Nicky and I tried very hard to make it work. With such a large field, we again spilt the results by Handicap with an equal number in both divisions. It never ceases to amaze me how this works out. The first four players in Division 1 were all Men and the first four players in Division 2 were all Ladies.

Results – Div 1

1 st – John Hunter – 40 pts
2 nd – Jason Rickert – 40 pts on Hcp
3 rd – Gordon Young – 40 pts on Hcp
4 th – Harry Müller – 38 pts

Results – Div 2

1 st – Roberta Jons – 43 pts
2 nd – Amanda Stanford – 37 pts
3 rd – Diane Harmer – 37 pts Hcp
4th – Debbie Fisher – 36 pts Hcp

Mixed Competition cont’d

Ramon had been present at many Club Prize Presentations. Normally just assisting but on this occasion, he asked if he could announce and present the Tissue which of course we agreed to. The good news is that it went to a very worthy winner and popular member of the club. The 50- point man – Jeremy Sibbons

Ramon, Nicky, Joachim and myself were the Fourball. None of us shone on the day but there was one moment we had to capture. Ramon’s tee shot on the 2 nd and you can see the Ladies tee behind him – just. We concluded the day with a few words and presented Ramon with a special bottle of Whiskey and gift cards from El Corte Ingles. The occasion proved too much for Ramon and he was somewhat overcome with emotion leaving him lost for words. He wanted to thank all the members for their kind sentiments and good wishes. San Roque was a special place for him and he wanted to thank all the Members for the kind words he received. I am sure we will see him again at San Roque for a round of golf!

Medal Competition Sunday September 22nd Sponsored by Vinomarket

The Monthly Medal sponsored by Richard Bell-Young of Vinomarket was played by 34 players on what was a pleasant day for golf. Michael Keane was standing in and presenting the prizes. Despite the calm conditions, the course probably had a half with the players and just suited the members with a slightly higher handicap. Iqbal Dharamsi won the day with a very good score of a net 69.

1 st – Iqbal Dharamsi – 69
2 nd – Robert Gordon – 71
3 rd – Harry Müller – 72
4 th – Ciaran Lally – 73 on Hcp

Nearest the Pin – Tony Holt
2’s – Graham Robinson, David Waite, Simon Sutcliffe, Ciaran Lally x 2, Dan Bannister, Robert Dye, Robert Gordon, Derek Rogers and Paul Ingebrigtsen.

I think there could be a steward’s inquiry into the Pin positions. I will be consulting with Borja during the week. Also, we did not have a wide-angle lens on the camera to fit the 2’s winners in!!
