Dear Ladies,
We have had a busy week here with a very mixed bag of weather. Sun, showers, very heavy showers and now clear blue skies again with the heat that we expect at this time of the year. Which means mosquito time! I hate them with a vengeance and need to stock up on repellent and calming gel.
On Tuesday, 18 of us played, which was excellent as it is generally much quieter from now until August/September. There were some fabulous scores, showing the course has now recovered from the heavy maintenance closure.
1st : Noelle Casey – 41 points and a birdie on 17
2nd: Andrea Tucker – 40 points and a birdie on 8
3rd: Marie Claire Serroels – 40 points and a birdie on 11
Aggie had a birdie on 5 and she is now off to the USA to celebrate her big 50, definitely in style! Which means she can now play in the quadrangular competitions. I do hope you have a fantastic time Aggie and take lots of photos.
A big thank you to Fatima and the San Roque team who put in so much work, above and beyond, to make sure that our competition on Wednesday for the International women’s day went to plan. The day started with lots of showers, but we all said our prayers and the sun appeared as we tee’d off. Some 49 ladies played (just 1 cancellation) and everybody praised the club for such a fabulous event. The 9 hole Texas format was perfect for us ladies and the food afterwards was enjoyed by us all.
Fatima organised some great prizes including a week pass to the Solheim Cup and Solheim Cup polo shirts, which were won by the first team.
1st : Anne Middlehurst, Regins Got, Noelle Casey & Jean Ann Taylor, net 30 on handicap
2nd : Pat French, Maria Angels Jimenez, Renee Williams & Irene Rosenblatt, net 30
3rd: Andrea Myers, Debbie Golding, Alyona Dye & Jo Hinds , net 31
4th: Amanda Stanford, Lelanie Marais, Joanne Hollings & Madeline , net 31
5th : Heidi Huhnert, Leni Van Verlo & Maria Caetano, net 32
Nearest the Pin on hole 5 was won by Noelle Casey and Hole 7 by Andrea Myers.
We also raised 300 Euro towards the David Steele Marathon Charity event by running a raffle with many prizes donated by friends & members.
The female staff also participated in a putting competition and Alicia was seen to be in deep concentration over the putter – we will try to get her on the course next time!
The weather was just not nice enough to play on Thursday for the WHS, so we all had a day off and in fact, only 8 out the 12 men finished their round due to the heavy showers.
However, on Saturday, Mark and Gonzalo ran a very successful Professionals day,
starting with Skills tests on the driving range. David & I refereed the putting skills challenge, which Duncan our vice-captain won with 11 points out of a possible 12; all skills points were added to the stableford score achieved in the main competition. 57 players ventured out and there were 5 prizes both for men & ladies.
1st : Svetlana Friedl
2nd: Caroline Rogers
3rd: Nicky Triay
4th: Sabine Hochschoner
5th: Yvonne Chu
Nearest the Pin on Hole 16: Debbie Richards
The rescheduled May medal, sponsored by Vinomarket, was played on Saturday with just 8 ladies. A stunning day, with clear blue skies and weather looking more stable for the week ahead. I needed a much-earned rest and so Nicky did the honours for me whilst I caught up on the washing and packed for my trip back to the UK this week. I haven’t been sleeping too well so the lie in worked wonders!
1st: Svetlana Friedl – net 71 with a birdie on hole 5
2nd: Anne Middlehurst – net 76
3rd: Nicky Triay – net 77
A special mention to Emilia Zehetmayr, a junior player under 16, as she plays off 9.6 and scored a net 75.
As we did not play on Thursday, many players submitted scores on Saturday or Sunday for the WHS.
Tuesday 13 June: Midweek Competition – Stableford – run by Debbie Richards

Adios for now- Linda x
Please see below for this week.
• The range tee will be topdressed on Monday morning, we haven’t managed to achieve this since the closure so expect this to be a little heavier.
• Greens on the new course will receive a light topdress on Tuesday
• Fairways on the old course will receive a light topdress on Tuesday/Wednesday, fairways will be mowed again on Friday as normal.
• The Driving Range fairway will be mowed on Tuesday morning. This will be open for play at normal time though.
• Tuesday Morning we will be hollow tining the putting green collar (bermuda grass) and topdressing with green sand. This is struggling with compaction and wasn’t done during the closure as I didn’t want to risk any contamination.
• Mulch spraying will be happening throughout the week
• All Bentgrass will be sprayed on Thursday this week.
• Bunkers will be fly-mowed twice this week to tighten up the surrounds of these, roughs will be mowed also.
• The team will start to clean out the nursery area on hole 7 this week, the plan is to extend this and re-seed over the coming weeks to allow us a bigger bent area to utilize this winter.
