LADY CAPTAIN WEEKLY NEWS

5 September 2023

Hello to you all,
I cannot believe that I am halfway through my captaincy, how time is flying. Thank you, my ladies, for being so supportive; I am thoroughly enjoying it! However, this week we are having so many issues with the App – I am permanently adding players manually to golf directo – please, please get it sorted soon IT department!!! Good job I am patient……
On Tuesday, 16 of us went up to La Cala, near Mijas, for an away day as the Old course was closed for maintenance. It was such a fun afternoon, starting with an hour at Calanova in the shop – what an Aladdin’s cave that is – well worth the trip! We played the America course and had a meal afterwards – well done to all that came, especially Russ & Renee, who won the vino!. We will have another away day in the new year, possibly Benalup, Sherry Golf or Montecastillo – watch this space.

8 Ladies played a 4 ball better ball on the new course – it was a draw. Thank you Pip for
organising the ladies.
It was amazing to see the blue moon on Thursday night – the next one is 2036 evidently. Sorry didn’t get a photo.
During the day, Nicky organised 12 ladies back on the Old course with a sprinkling
of sand on the greens and fairways, which did not cause any major issues.
1st – Amanda Holt – 35 points
2nd – Anne Middlehurst – 34 points
3rd – Pip Vincent – 33 points
There were no birdies.
On Friday, 5 groups of 4 ladies played
having spent an hour with Christina Gomez-Cano on the floor in the Eddie Pollard room! She was brilliant – telling us how, as women, we should think about our bodies and prepare for golf with a series of exercises and then the cool down after the game.
We all enjoyed the session and I am hoping to organise for her to come on a regular basis to continue with ‘Modern Golf for Women’. I know, in this gender-neutral world, that is becoming more prevalent, we should not be focusing on just us but I for one know that we play differently to men and have different strengths (& weaknesses) to the male gender. I apologise to anyone that does not agree.
The 9 & wine afterwards was a great success – we will be having another before my demise!
1st – Helen Seamer, Jules Hale, Tracey Rogers & Malene Bjorlow – net 26.75
2nd – Linda Fletcher, Andrea Myers, Renee Williams & Christina – net 29.65
3rd – Anne Middlehurst, Pip Vincent, Tina Ducker & Bobby Jons – net 30
4th – Svetlana Friedl, Leni Van Berlo, Agi Savitz & Sharon Andersson – net 30.75
5th – Debbie Richards, Susie Lilley, Liz Griffiths & Davida Whimster – net 35.9
Some were a little confused about the rules – but the majority liked the step a-side Texas format.

On Saturday morning, nursing a few hang overs, there was a mixed extra federated for the brave. All things considered, I played really well , but vow to have non- alcoholic week this week to give the liver a rest before next week!

2nd – Iqbal Dharamsi – 36 points
3rd – Linda Fletcher – 35 points
4th – John Hunter – 34 points
