LADY CAPTAIN WEEKLY NEWS

LINDA FLETCHER - 24 April 2023

Hello Again Ladies,
I do hope you are all keeping fit and healthy wherever you may be in the world. It was quite chilly here for a couple of days with the levante wind, but all has settled now at the time of writing this. It was good to see a few faces back to the club this week and adios to those that are returning to their base, safe travels and hope to see you soon.
On Tuesday, 11 ladies played in the competition, and it was lovely to meet a new member, Sally Cusition, vice captain of West Sussex. I am so pleased that Debbie Fisher is back playing regularly, and she looks amazing after her scare!
The results were:
1st: Debbie Fisher 35 pts
2nd: Anne Middlehurst 34 pts with a birdie on hole 7
3rd: Christine Taylor 34 pts with her first birdie also on 7
On Wednesday, 10 ladies played the return interclub with La Reserva. We managed to get our own back with an end result of 17-13 to us. Well done Nicky for organizing the teams and the delicious lunch. We certainly look forward to this being a permanent fixture in the calendar.
This was Irene’s last match with us and as you can see, we all enjoyed the post match festivities!

The monthly mixed competition was played on Thursday, with 47 players. There were some amazing results, along with some surprise lower ones.
1st: Andy Stanford – 44 pts
2nd: Andrew Macauley – 41 pts
3rd: Martin Schneider- 39 pts
4th: Tracey Rogers – 38 pts – WELL DONE!! Great to
see a lady in the prizes.
Debbie Richards had 2 birdies on holes 4 and 5.
David gives doilies out to those men who did not achieve a score higher than their wife or partner. The honours this week went to Tony Flanagan (31 pts) with Ruth getting 32 pts,
and to Derek Rogers as he scored 36 pts to Tracey’s 38. I do hope they frame them!

Another prestigious award of the ‘Tissue’ went to Jeremy Sibbons – not sure this was strong enough to wipe all the tears away with his 23 pts.

The first monthly medal, sponsored by Richard Belll Young at Vinomarket in San Enrique, was played on Sunday with very calm conditions , however putting was very tricky. Well done ladies, playing from the 56 tees can be a lot more challenging but we need to Push ourselves sometimes to achieve better results. It has been agreed, because of the variation in the tee positions throughout the year, to play from the stones for the monthly medals so that it is consistent for all players.
1st: Linda Fletcher – 2 under par – a first for me!
2nd: Anne Middlehurst – par
3rd: Svetlana Friedl – 1 over par

Well played ladies. Yet again Debbie Richards was awarded a birdie for the birdie tree on the 15th. She is leading the field, at the moment!!
Remember that Richard can supply wines to you at wholesale prices and it is very easy to sign up to the App and order through this or through the website on www.vinomarket.es
We are all looking forward to the club championships, and we are planning to include a ‘Royal’ theme with putting and pitching competitions run by David and Duncan. Many of you are not British or indeed Royalists but it would be nice to wear your countries ‘Royal’ colours on Saturday 6 May to make it more of an occasion here at San Roque If you are attending a street party or other celebration at home, please feel free to send me some photos to share amongst your friends here. Send your news, I want to know what is happening outside San Roque Club.
