Well, I have survived my first month as your captain and what a busy month it has been.
This week has just flown past with good weather but some misty mornings delaying play a tad. It started with a clinic on Monday with Gonzalo, and I really think it is starting to pay off as I feel a lot more confident when addressing the ball and generally a lot more consistent, hence some good results achieved.
19 ladies played on Tuesday, and we welcomed back Helen Tallentire and Cornelia Busch. We are now out after the men for the month of May and I for one like having a lie in!
The results were:
1st: Ann Middlehurst 38 pts
2nd: Helen Tallentire 38 pts
3rd: Nicola Triay 36 pts
Svetlana had a birdy on hole 7 and no doubt there were some near misses from others.
Wednesday, what happened Wednesday? – oh yes, I ventured through the new tunnel into Gibraltar to collect the trophies for the championships – really pleased with the new perpetual Scratch trophy. We are gradually, throughout the year, acquiring perpetual trophies for the board competitions to present at the end of the year. However, the club
championships were presented on Sunday and later in this newsletter you can see the results.
On Thursday, as we did on Tuesday, the ladies had a practice from the 56 tees in readiness for the weekend. 15 ladies played on a very muggy day and it is good to see Denise Moodie and Caroline Rogers back for a while.
The results were:
1st: Sharon Andersson 36pts
2nd: Debbie Fisher 35 pts
3rd: Anne Middlehurst 33 pts
No birdies on Thursday.
And all of a sudden, it was the weekend when 30 of use endured the 2 days of stroke play which
Is never easy for us amateurs. The weather was glorious, albeit the wind got up on Saturday but
much needed on Sunday as it was very warm out there. A huge thank you to my helpers from the men’s section. What fun we had with the putting green and chipping competition after the dinner. Thank you, David and Duncan for setting this up.
So, onto the results for the Club Championships:
1st Handicap day 1 – Maxi Strandberg-Glas +2
1st Handicap day 2 -Liz Desmond -6
1st Handicap overall – Ksenia Yamilova +5
2nd Handicap overall – Debbie Fisher +5
1st Scratch Winner – Svetlana Friedl +45
2nd Scratch Winner – Karina Budantseva +52
Well done to all that played, we certainly had a fabulous weekend, the food was fantastic and a
big thank you to all the staff. A very memorable
occasion for me. As it was King Charles lll coronation on Saturday, we had a Royaltheme, dressing in our royal or country colours. We all looked very fetching in predominantly red, white and blue with a touch of orange and green thrown in.
Kay Tyler made Coronation quiches And coronation chicken vol-au-vents which went down really well along with The other refreshments– thank you Kay.
In addition to the main trophies, David and Kay Tyler kindly gave 2 ticket each to the 1st Scratch and Handicap winners for full hospitality on one of the Solheim cup days. This was so generous and thank you both so much, it is greatly appreciated.
All the pictures will be uploaded to the website this week so you can see what a great occasion it was. The next big event for me is Lady Captains day on June 30th – please put this date in your calendars!
The next Arts Society meeting is on Wednesday 17th at San Roque Club – do try to come as they are always very professionally run by the committee and the guest speakers are very professional and extremely interesting.
