Friday 27 October: ACL Match v La Quinta (Away)

This was played on the A & C nines. The course was in great condition, despite the recent rain, with the greens rolling very well. Breakfast was up to the usual good standard and the meal afterwards was fabulous. Great hospitality from Hugh and his team.

MEN´S CAPTAIN WEEKLY NEWS

In the top match Tony Holt and I achieved an honourable halve for 1.5 points with Hugh Brown holing a ten footer on the final green to deny us an outright win. It was a tremendous game with lots of birdies and very good scoring. Good wins for Derek Whelan and Michael Keane (3 points), Gary Potts & Terry Young (3 points) and David MacGregor & Francis Payne (2 points). Jim Jenet and Andy Rogers managed a valuable point.
Overall result on the day: La Quinta 7.5. San Roque 10.5
A splendid away win which puts us back in the top 4 in the League Table with just four matches to go; double headers against El Paraiso and Villa Padierna to come next month.
Well done to the Team for an excellent score of San Roque 24.5 La Quinta 11.5 across the two fixtures!!

Golfing Anecdotes:

Alfred Hitchcock’s thriller movie ‘Psycho’ is a classic that terrified audiences from the 1960s. But how many remember the King’s shocker at the US Open in 1966?
In one of golf’s horror masterpieces, Arnold Palmer surrendered a 7-shot advantage to Billy Casper (the ghost jokes write themselves) with 9 holes to play at the Olympic Club, eventually losing in an 18-hole Monday play-off. So accustomed to the role of predator rather than prey, Arnie committed miscue after miscue whilst Casper carded a brilliant back-nine 32. Powerless to stop the bleeding on the course, Palmer also fell victim to the crowd’s vigorous encouragement of Casper’s comeback.
