The Lady Vice Captain’s Team and 3 other Teams are reminded that they should read the rule sheet properly ahead of next year’s competition, paying special attention to the illustrative diagram!
Old Course: The greens and ante greens will be top dressed on Tuesday this week. This will help start to smooth the ball roll out after the renovation works. It is normal as the holes start to grow through that the greens become more bobbly. Tees will be top dressed on Wednesday this week. All bent grass will be sprayed on Thursday this week; this will be subject to the weather as we do have some possible rain later this week. As always what is forecast and what comes could differ so we will wait to make any final decisions until nearer the time.
Can you play 18 holes of the Old Course in 1 hour 18 minutes or better to beat last year’s
record? Can you beat last year Best Team Score of -16?
The Speed Golf Charity Marathon this year will be on Wednesday 5 July so as not to interfere with the Midweek Stableford Competitions. David Steele will be playing a total of 9 rounds on the Old Course; Captain and Vice will be matching this (DT 5 rounds and DQ 4 rounds). Please see me or contact me by WhatsApp if you want to join in. As per last year the monies raised are going to local charities. These are Cancer Relief in Gibraltar where Kevin Bastone is a Trustee and the children looked after by Nun Soeur Joaquina and her staff at Centro Contigo in La Linea. This is the 30th Anniversary of David’s first Marathon in 1993 at The San Roque Club and it’s his final year of doing this Charity Marathon so it’s a special occasion and the Captains ask as many of you as possible to join in. The entry fee is 100 euros with all proceeds going to the Charities on
a 50/50 split. Prizes for Team with Best Time and Team with Best Score.
The Charity Day and Auction will follow on Saturday 8 July with lots of exciting items on offer!!!!

The next Major is the 123rd U.S. Open at the Los Angeles Country Club, starting on Thursday June 15. No doubt there will be quite a few sore eyes trying to stay awake to watch it! The North Course at LACC hosted the first Los Angeles Open some 97 years ago in 1926, and it returned four times, in 1934, 1935, 1936 and 1940. The splendid North Course has consistently been ranked in the top 20 in the U.S. since the extensive renovation in 2010 under the supervision of Gil Hanse and Geoff Shackelford. It is interesting to note that this will be the first Men’s Major in the Los Angeles area in 28 years and the area’s first U.S. Open in 75 years!
To whet your appetite here are a few photographs of the North Course.
Hole 11: Par 3, 290 yards, with the Los Angeles skyline beyond.
Hole 18: possibly the toughest of the three closing Par 4s?
Happy Golfing and Swing it well !
