Gentlemen
After a small amount of rain in the week from Friday it turned to summer again. This culminated at the weekend with an absolutely full terrace and Members Area basking in the sunshine and a temperature hovering around 21c. Apologies to those in Northern Europe who were experiencing somewhat different weather. We are so lucky to be here at the SRC.
MEN’S Competition Tuesday January 7th
The Tuesday competition saw a field of 30 players taking to the fairways of San Roque. The conditions were favourable but the course was not in a giving mood. With the junior Thomas Ybarra Gallagher the only player doing better than their handicap, 37 points, the rest of the leaderboard were tightly packed behind him. The eventual winner on the day David MacGregor succeeding over Jeremy Sibbons on handicap with 36 points. In third place was Ian Wright with 35 points again succeeding on handicap over Ian Jones. It did seem like the David MacGregor show as he also won nearest the pin and had a two!!

MEN’S Competition Thursday January 9th
A slightly larger field compared to Tuesday’s event and we were also greeted by a leak in the sky. However the members at San Roque are a hardy lot and managed to play the whole round. Despite the damp conditions it did not prevent some good scoring. The first five places were all filled by single figure handicap golfers. It was the turn of the Davids to top the leaderboard with the MacGregor option succeeding over the Steele version with 38 points each and decided on handicap. Mr MacGregor seems to be returning to form from the rather mauve period he went through in November playing off 3.9 and now back down to 2.1. Well played David. It was David Steele who featured in the places, nearest the pin and a two.

The San Roque Club Texas Scramble and Perpetual Trophy
What a fabulous turnout on an equally fabulous day. There were 112 players making up 28 teams for the SRC Texas Scramble and trophy. Amazing as it was, the majority of those taking part finished in just over 4 and a half hours. Well done to everybody on the pace of play. As normal in Texas Scramble events at San Roque there were some very competitive scores. I can only assume that the weather played a big part with beautiful sunshine, no wind and a very pleasant 21c. There were many stories of what could have and what should have been but at the end of the competition it seemed like a Breuer family event. With Tammy and Frank Breuer partnered with Agi and Norman Savitz they were victorious by 1.3 shots from the team containing their son Jack. No doubt some family banter took place after the event.
