Gentlemen
I thought it would be a good idea to keep this week’s newsletter short after the bumper edition of last week. At the end of this week we had some rain, much needed, but not needed for the Raider Cup. More about that later.
Men’s Competition Tuesday October 8th
This Tuesday proved to be a competitive event with some good scoring at the top of the leaderboard and a very strong player at the bottom. From my quick check of recent results, it looks as though it could be a record for the tissue. The winner of the Tuesday competition was Bill Fletcher with an excellent score of 41 points. His handicap was cut to 8.8 and is close to his lowest handicap within the last year in the Spanish Federation. Well played Bill.

MEN’S Competition Thursday October 10th
With a field of 36 players only seven did not manage 30 points so competition was tough to avoid the tissue!! 36 points would only earn you 10th place on the leaderboard. The top five headed by Frank Breuer with 39 points were only separated by a single point meaning playing handicap decided all five places. The best gross score of the day was 74 by Josh Hunter.

RAIDER CUP Sunday October 13th ENGLAND v REST of the WORLD
The preparations for the Annual Raider Cup were somewhat stressful with a weather forecast that was looking very wet. After heavy Saturday night rain, we were greeted on Sunday morning by grey and misty skies and clouds that looked like they were going to solve our water shortage very quickly. We took the gamble, played and by the time we had finished were looking for shade under a beautiful sunny sky as per the photos below. We still have a water shortage!! England has a population of around 60m against the rest of the world of just under 9 billion. This was always going to be a difficult match. England started very well in the opening sequence of matches with a significant lead . But against a rest of the world team with such a choice of talent in depth, it was a struggle to maintain that lead. The overwhelming advantage of choice of team players for the Rest of the World began to take its toll. I can’t think of any more diversionary words before I have to announce the final result.
England 21.5 v Rest of the World 23.5
Congratulations and well played Row and well done to the England team for a brave fight. England will be back!!
Course Maintenance from Borja
This week we will continue with the work on ditches and drains on the course to prevent any problems that the rain may cause.
We will also apply growth regulator on greens.
Removal of weeds that might have grown on the mulch areas.
