Gentlemen and Zero’s

Another busy week of Golf at San Roque! Tuesday and Thursday midweek  competitions, ACL Match v Guadalmina and the long awaited ZERO’S Party

Captains Tour – Madrid

Within the next few days I will be finalising the numbers on the Tour. The dates  are from Sep 9 (arrival day) and Sep 14 (departing day). Four rounds of golf and  the odd glass of Rioja. Please let me know ASAP if you are interested in going.

Men’s Competition Tuesday July 23

With 29 players competing it was a remarkably close competition. With 20 players  scoring above 30 points it was very close at the top of the leaderboard. Second  place on 35 points was decided on handicap by four players on the same score of  35 points. The winner on the day was Tim Vincent with 38 points. Spare a  thought for Paul McCarthy who had a great score of 42 points but not eligible to  win with only one score in the Spanish Federation. You thought it couldn’t get  worse but under the WHS rules it earned him a cut of 8.1 shots. A few more  rounds will help him get some of those shots back but well played

Men’s Competition Thursday July 25

Midweek competitions continue to be a competitive event with most weeks the  winning score needs to start with a 4. This week was no exception. With a  three week break from San Roque this weeks winner saw the rewards of a  similar time practicing. I had a quick (perhaps not so quick) look back through  the almost 700 federated rounds that Dmac has played to discover he is now  equal to the best handicap he has had at San Roque. With a gross 70 and a  cut of 0.7 taking him to 1.3. He also replenished his stock of Pro V1’s in the  process. Well played David. Apologies to Graham Robinson who due to some  misinformation did in fact get second place.

Results

1st – David Macgregor- 41 pts

2nd – Graham Robinson- 39 pts on handicap

3rd – Bill Casey- 39 pts

4th – Joachim Friedl- 38 pts on handicap and back 9

5th – Julian Menashe- 38 pts

Nearest the Pin – Phil Fisher

2’s – David Macgregor

Tissue – Simon Sutcliffe

San Roque ACL Match v Guadalmina (Home) Wednesday July 24

The second leg of the ACL fixture took place at San Roque. It was an important  game within the league with both teams having a similar points average. We  were hoping that home advantage would enable us to improve this. With the  final two matches to be finished SR were in a healthy lead but Guadalmina were  not giving up easily. Out of a possible 6 points in those games we managed  only two. The home match result went in favour of SR 10 ½ v 7 ½ which meant  an overall result of 18 – 18.

This moves us up to 4th in the league on points won and our average. We have  played all three teams above us. No pressure but a win in each against Aloha,  La Quinta, El Paraiso and the last game against Villa Padierna keeps us in the  hunt.

ZERO PARTY

San Roque know how to play golf and party but not necessarily in that order!  Many thanks to all those zero’s who organised a fantastic event. 128 players  on the course and over 200 attending the dinner meant a lot of fun was had by  all. The picture below shows all the zero’s that were involved in the day from  participating to organising.
