The usual midweek competitions took place followed at the weekend by the Monthly Medal sponsored by Vinomarket.
Men’s Competition Tuesday October 22nd
A large field of 45 players (meaning two divisions) took to the fairways and scoring seemed easy for the majority. The minority struggled including the Captain. A vote was taken as to whether the Captain should receive the tissue. Much to my displeasure it was voted I should. On double checking the results there was actually a tie on 18 points. A further ruling was needed as to whether this should be decided on handicap. Another vote took place, and it was decided it should go to the lowest handicap. Phew, I missed it and apologies to Max Macauley!! There was some consolation for the Macauley family as Andy won Division 1 and had the best score of the day.

MEN’S Competition Thursday October 24th
Another large field of 48 players in what were perfect playing conditions. I was expecting some excellent scoring but for some reason the course was the winner. Only three players performed better than their handicap. Congratulations to Noel Smith with a winning score of 38 points but a pity you missed the applause! Tony Flanagan got second place with 37 points on handicap from Gary Adams in third. The in-form Andy Macauley was fourth on handicap with three players on 35 points.

Monthly Medal Saturday October 26th Sponsored by Richard Bell-Young of Vinomarket
Many thanks to Richard and Vinomarket for his sponsorship of our Monthly Medal. This month is the seventh event of our annual tournament where the winner goes into the Champion of Champions final in April 2025. The members were met by some strong winds on the course making playing conditions difficult. Well they were difficult for most that played except one or two. Mark Squire finished second with a net 70 which included playing the wrong ball. The odd mistake was also made by three players in the same group all with low handicaps. Unfortunately playing from the wrong tee lead Jim Jenet, Matt Charlesworth and Christer Eriksson being disqualified which they called on themselves. However, no mistakes by Derek Rogers, who made scoring look
very easy, conquering the conditions with an excellent score of a net 68. Well played Derek and we look forward to seeing you next April, if not before!!
